Barry Dalgleish's blog

Dear Green Planet

I originally posted this blog on the Transition Glasgow site. At the suggestion of Luci I've copied it here.

Like many environmentally minded people, I wander into our massive supermarkets and what do I see? Choice. Mind boggling huge amounts of choice - pre-wrapped in mind boggling huge amounts of superfluous wrapping, which might look really neat on a supermarket shelf. But watch it all go into landfill and you would really get some idea of the amount of waste generated by huge amounts of unnecessary packaging, not to mention the even more mind boggling quantities of food waste. But after wandering around the isles, you have to wonder why. Do people really need so much choice?
