The Big Lunch - community get together!

Wee ones enjoying a run about at a Big Lunch in Glasgow

The Big Lunch 2012

Hello - I wondered if you had heard about The Big Lunch? It’s a simple idea from the Eden Project to try and get as many communities as possible having lunch together on one day in the year – this year, Sunday 3rd June. Free packs are available to help you get started, and there’s a website full of advice to help you keep going.

I’ll admit to a vested interest – I now work for The Big Lunch - but I work there because after working for Transition Scotland Support I wanted to do something that helped communities get together initially. I know from experience the kinds of things you can do once you’ve gotten people together – this network is living proof! Eden thinks we’re better equipped to face the challenges we face when we face them together – it sounds a lot like building resilience to me.

It would be great to see some more Transition projects having Big Lunches – we’ve got access to quite a broad press and publicity machine, and I would love to promote the work of the Transition Scotland network if I can!

We’re really keen to find Big Lunch Champions who can encourage other communities to get together and have lunch and I think that some of you reading this post might just be the people I’m looking for.
